Several activists of Popolo Viola London were present at the lecture of former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema, who spoke on 22nd February at the London School of Economics. We questionned both the scarcely noticeable 'opposition' the Italian left is performing against the attacks to democracy by the current government, and the incongruencies of D'Alema's lecture (about the European left, featuring an inspiring appeal to the progressive forces to reassert Equality as their central value) with the actions recently taken by his party and himself.
We were not the only ones, though: some of the most indignated voices you can hear in the videos did not have anything to do with Popolo Viola London.

1. WHAT THE TV DID NOT SHOW
The reportage shown in Italy by TG1 , not differing a lot from the TG2 one, showed a relaxed D'Alema 'teaching a lesson to the future managers'. The actual atmosphere was rather different, as can be noticed from our video.
2. SCUDO FISCALE
Tena questionned D'Alema about an evident incongruency of his speech, preaching about economic equality. A highly anti-constitutional, highly anti-economically equal law (Scudo fiscale) was recently passed by the Italian government. The PD was not present at the voting session, and D'Alema declared that he 'did not think it was important to go and vote on that day'.
3. BANCA ANTONVENETA

4. CONFLICT OF INTERESTS
The most obvious but maybe also most important theme: how is it possible that no law against the conflict of interests was issued during your government, allowing a huge mediatic and political power in the hands of Berlusconi? Stefano asking.
